Happy New Year from a Policemans Life

Hello all,
Well today is the last day of this year, and tomorrow brings in 2011.

I know many of you will be out and about tonight celebrating, I would like to wish you all a happy New Year and I would hope that you celebrate with safety in mind.

I'm alittle excited about working tonight, when there is soo many people out celebrating tonight there will be some bad apples, and the bad apples are who we deal with.

Being in the Paddy wagon they will call us downtown once the bars get busy which should be fun.

I will see you all in 2011..... Play safe

Back to work in the Paddy Wagon

Hello,

Well the last 12 days have been great, I went to a couple Christmas parties and enjoyed great time with my family and friends.

But tomorrow I'm back to the streets, I'm working one of the early vehicles, and it's the Paddy Wagon, when I worked in East Division I was in the early wagon and enjoyed it.

This cycle should be interesting, the wagon gets sent to all the big calls and with us working New Years Eve night we should be busy, and if downtown goes crazy they call in the wagon to help out.... Is it bad I can't wait? lol

Merry Christmas Crossing Guard.....Not

This whole Fall/Winter has been Wet Wet Wet...

Again today the cold rain was falling, but I still needed to get out for a run. The Last little while I have been alittle lazy, with 2 Christmas parties and being on Vacation my body isn't feeling top notch.

So I put on my running gear and headed out into the rain to start my run.  My Goal for today was to get under 30mins for 5Km, since I've been running in my Five Fingers I haven't been under that mark, Last year when I was doing speed work I was getting 26mins for 5km, still working to get there.

Well to the crossing guard, when running during school hours and the crossing guards are out, they always aid me in crossing the streets. I say thank you and head on my way.

There's one older lady that works a certain street and whenever you run by her, she mumbles something at you and steps away from the crosswalk. Today when running by she mumbles something under her breath then said, I'm not helping you and walked away from the crosswalk. On my way back she was across the street and saw me coming and threw her hands up in the air, I could see her mumbling, as I approached the crosswalk a car was coming, I waited for it to stop then crossed, as I crossed she yelled at me for making the car stop..... I was mad....

I replied to her.... Is your Boss still So and So? ( I know who he is because he's a police officer) What would he think about this? Your a disgrace to your fellow crossing guards, you should be ashamed!!!!

Should I have said that? No, But I must say it felt good to get it off my chest!

3 Days till Christmas

Well the countdown is on, there's only 3 days left till Jolly Old Saint Nick drops offs the gifts.
Santa texted me this week and asked if I could help him out alittle, so today I'll head out for the last time and finish off the Christmas shopping.

After I get all the stocking stuffers I'll head out for a run, need to stay active this week, due to the extra food I'm sure I'll be eating....LOL

WINTER HIKE

Today was kind of a lazy at home so we decided to head out for a short Hike.  One day when working we received a call for service where a hiker had fallen and could get themselves out of the trail, and her friends were unable to help her as well. So the men in blue were sent, it's kinda funny, a hiker with a sprain ankle doesn't really seem like a police thing but we get dispatched to everything.

Anyways I took note of the place and wanted to return, so today we did. I called up my friend Tim ( Or GoodcarBadcar in the blog  world) and myself and H went and picked him up and headed out.
At the trail head is a beautiful million dollar home (pictured below) which we checked out then headed out the trail, which leads to these old war bunkers.

We grabbed some cool pics then headed back, we didn't go to the end, we'll do that on a nicer day.

Oh I wore my Five Fingers and they held up great in the snowy bog (story here)

Vacation Time...

Yesterday was the start of my Vacation that encompasses Christmas....
My Last night shift was alittle slow which was good, I worked hard to clean up my files so that I entered my Christmas break stress free. We did make 1 arrest but it wasn't my file so easy enough for me....

Yesterday we just kinda relaxed, and I think I plan to do the same thing for the next 11 days, I have alittle shopping to do, but I think I'll spread it out.

Think I'll slide the Five Fingers on later and go for a run.

Vibram Five Fingers in the snow

Today was a snowy day here, It was nice I wanted to get some Christmas gifts and the Local shopping center had 20% off.

So with the snowy weather and 20% I was in the shopping mood, even brave enough to wade through the crazy crowds.

I survived the crowds and got some great deals for this time of year.

Before supper me and H went for a run, it was still snowing alittle and snow was on the ground, we were both in our Vibram Five Fingers and they felt great. We went along a gravel path so it wasn't slippery, but when we we on the sidewalk it was alittle slippery.

Overall they were great in the snow.

10km in Five Fingers

Yesterday I ran my First 10km run in over 2 years, and it was done in my Vibram Five Fingers.

My Achilles had been alittle sore after upping my distance too quick so the last little while I rested my feet by doing shorter runs, but I was feeling good yesterday so I decided to push it alittle.

As I was sliding into my Five Fingers I was thinking about running 6-7kms, but as I started running and my Achilles felt good I was thinking about running 8km's.

As I got to the half way mark (4km) I thought why not run another km and make the half way mark 10km....

Around the 7 or 8 km mark I came to a crazy steep hill, I thought to myself, this is where I make it or break it... I struggled up the hill and I was so happy....

I finished my 10km run, my legs felt alittle heavy, But I felt soo proud that I did it.......

Love my Five Fingers

Slow night in the city

Last night was a slow night on patrol...
Early in the night I went on a few calls then it died off, On my lunch break I headed home and played some PS3 Call of Duty Black Opps, which helped me wake up.

After my lunch break we set up a checkpoint on a main road out of the city to check the people leaving the downtown after the bars which netted a few tickets, after that it was those couple last hours till days off.

On my lunch when I headed home I grabbed the book I have been reading (Born to run) and I parked by the side of the road to watch traffic and made it through a few chapters, then the night was over.

I didn't do much with my first day off, but I still think I'll head out for a run soon..

Busy at Work..

Well the last two day shifts at work have been busy,
I area of the city that I love to work has been touched with some recent violence that kept my day shifts non stop.

Instead of me telling the story and getting in trouble ;) Here's the Local News view on it.

So tonight I start my first of two night shifts, Last cycles night shifts were the slowest I've seen in a long time, so you never know what tonights will bring.

Warrior Dash Race

Since I have been getting back into shape, I have been looking at a couple runs to enter next year.
It always helps to have a goal when your training.

I was looking around the Internet the other day and was on a blog I follow (Run Faster Mommy)

She had a picture of her jumping a row of fire which looked really cool, so I had to click on it and I came across the race called Warrior Dash.

As soon as I saw the Warrior Dash I knew I wanted to do it.... You have to go to the website and check out the pics and video, it's a race where the runners climb walls, jump over cars, run through rivers, slide down muddy hills, go through tunnels and jump fire!! Sounds Fun right!!!

The races are held across the states and the closest to me would be in NY state.... I can't wait!

Achilles Tendon Pain

Well I learned that VFF don't make you superman when you put them on.

I have been doing great the last couple of months, I've lost 13lbs the last couple months putting below 200lbs for the first time in over 4yrs :D

I guess the problem has been that I was doing so well and feeling great during my runs that I upped my distance by big chucks.

Last week after  a good paced 8km run I felt good, but the next day my Achilles tendons felt sore, mainly my left one. When reading online the two main factors that lead to Achilles tendon pain is:
 1) Quickly Increasing distance
 2) Quickly Increasing speed

Well I did both so that's why I have pain! LOL

Any Ideas?

Vibram Five Fingers 20% off

Well you know I love my Vibram Five Fingers, So whats better then 1 pair of Five Fingers? Of course 2 Pairs.

The other day I was online and came across Rockcreek's website, The are a shoe store in the US which also sells their shoes online.

When buying Vibram Five Fingers you have to be careful of the fakes, Vibram does not allow their shoes to be sold on auction sites, and screens the stores they allow to sell them as well.

I checked on the Vibram website and Rockcreek is an authorized dealer.

Rockcreek is offering 20% off their shoes for the next few days and also offers free shipping.

So I ordered a new pair of KSO's and as I type they are in ROANOKE, VA, US, I can't wait to get them.

So if you want Vibram Five fingers, go to the Rockcreek website and use the coupon code RC59X2 to get 20% off...

20 yr Old Police Chief

PRAXEDIS G. GUERRERO, Mexico — There's a new police chief in this violent borderland where drug gangs have killed public officials and terrified many citizens into fleeing: a 20-year-old woman who hasn't yet finished her criminology degree.

Marisol Valles Garcia was sworn in Wednesday to bring law and order to a township of about 8,500 that has been transformed from a string of quiet farming communities into a lawless no man's land. Two rival gangs — the Juarez and Sinaloa drug cartels — have been battling for control of its single highway, a lucrative drug trafficking route along the Texas border.

LET'S HOPE SHE KNOWS WHAT SHE STEPPED INTO....

Shark kills 20-year-old man

A shark attack Friday killed a 20-year-old man off a beach on Vandenberg Air Force Base, said the Santa Barbara County, California, Fire Department.

Surf Beach is one of three that sits on the coastal air base, and the military closed all three beaches at 9:46 a.m. Pacific (12:46 p.m. ET), shortly after the shark attack, an air base spokesman said.

The three beaches will remain closed for 72 hours, the spokesman said.

Surf Beach is open to the public, but the other two -- Wall and Minuteman Beaches -- are open to base personnel only, the spokesman said.

Vibram five fingers go shopping

Today, I was still alittle sore from my 2hr K9 track ( doesn't help you have 25 lbs of gear on ), so I decided not to run today, I wore the five Fingers out to get groceries, one lady was very impressed with them saying they were the coolest shoes she has seen, I answered alot of questions for her and continued on my way....

- Posted using BlogPress from my iPhone

K9 Track

Well The other night I attended a call that K9 was called to track someone, When K9 goes on a track they need another officer to cover them. I volunteered, while I was waiting for K9 to show up I stretched alittle, little did I know it was good that I warmed up.

K9 showed up and he headed out, well 2hrs later we were still on the track, I had already gone through my 1st, and 2nd wind, at one point another officer volunteered to take over from me, I tapped out, and just how luck would have it, after the new officer was running for 10mins they caught the guy....lol

But I must say it's amazing to see how those dogs work, they are hard working and want to get the bad guy as much as the officers...
