So this past weekend I was in New York City, it was a early Christmas gift for my wife, since we have not been since we had kids.
When walking through Times square I noticed the The NYPD Police vehicles had bullet proof glass in the front windows. This may be normal for a tactical vehicle but not for a general patrol vehicle.
I learned that in 2016 they made 60 NYPD Patrol vehicles with bullet proof windows and door panels, and they plan on expanding on that number, here's a quick video about it.
